public transport

transport_miejskiThe economic potential of a metropolis is, among other factors, a function of well organized public transport which enables the residents to move smoothly from and to school, work, and places of leisure. The main organiser of the public transport in the Gdańsk Metropolis is the Metropolitan Transport Association of the Bay of Gdańsk (www.mzkzg.org).

The purpose of the Association is to integrate the existing bus, tram, trolley, and swift commuter train (overground equivalent of the subway) systems.

For three years now the association has also been promoting water transport in the summer season, i.e. the water tram shuttle between the harbours of Gdańsk, Gdynia, Sopot, and Hel.

To further improve transport in the Area, an intelligent system of monitoring and controlling the road traffic is planned.

Integration of the cycling routes will create another attractive alternative to the car or public transport.
