Three airports are located within a 100 kilometre radius from Katowice– Krakow, Ostrava, and the Katowice International Airport located only 30 km from the city centre. Already in 2003, the airport annually provided services to c. 250,000 passengers.

This number had risen to over 2 million by 2008. In 2007, a new passenger terminal was given into use with a capacity of 3.6 million passengers per year. Further expansion of the airport is planned. Katowice Airport presently provides regular connections with the more important cities on the map of the world, including, as of 2009, with Kiev in the Ukraine. The new S1 expressway guarantees fast and convenient access from Katowice to the airport. There is a permanent bus connection between Katowice and the Airport. Moreover, Katowice has a smaller airport located in the vicinity of the city centre. It is adapted for small air traffic, mainly business-related.
