wgfBetween 9 and 11 June 2011 the Wrocław Regional Centre for Business Tourism will be the venue for the 2nd Wrocław Global Forum, an international conference on transatlantic issues. More than 300 delegates will come to Wrocław from all over the world. The Wrocław Convention Bureau, with the Atlantic Council of the United States, are the organisers of the event.

The main subject matters to be discussed during the meeting are relations between Europe and the USA, the Eastern Partnership, the place of Eastern Europe in the world economy, the future of Belarus, and the revolutions in North Africa.

The Forum will be opened by the President of Poland Bronisław Komorowski, and the several hundred guests will include, i.a., the Prime Minister of Moldavia – Vladimir Filat, the Polish Minister of Foreign Affairs – Radosław Sikorski, the former President of Poland – Aleksander Kwaśniewski, the American Under Secretary of State for Arms Control and International Security Affairs – Ellen Tauscher, and the American Assistant Secretary of Defence –  Alexander Vershbow.

The conference will feature the ceremony of “Freedom Awards” – granted for outstanding contribution to spreading democracy, freedom, and civil rights. This year’s Freedom Awards winners will be members of the Belarusian opposition, one of the founders of the Egyptian April 6 Youth Movement, the Polish Minister of Foreign Affairs Radosław Sikorski, and the Prime Minister of Moldavia Vladimir Filat, for their efforts in propagating democracy and its values – freedom of speech and human rights.
