Between 1 and 3 February 2011, the Convention Bureau of Poland, with local support from the Kraków Convention Bureau, organised a site inspection for a representative of the European Healthcare Fraud & Corruption Network (EHFCN). In October 2011, this association will be organising its annual conference in Kraków. The crucial factor in making this decision was that the city will be hosting the meetings of the Council of the European Union at that time.
The European Healthcare Fraud & Corruption Network is the only European organisation tackling fraud and corruption in the healthcare sector across the entire continent. The Convention Bureau of Poland established contacts with the EHFCN during last year’s EIBTM Fair in Barcelona.
The timetable of the site inspection involved visiting Kraków hotels which previously, at the request of the EHFCN, had prepared presentations of their services. The basic criteria for choice was the hotel’s availability in October 2011, its capacity to hold a conference for 150 to 200 people while providing accommodation in the same facility, its location, and the availability of public transport services. Besides hotels, Kraków restaurants situated in the city centre, and near the Salt Mine in Wieliczka, were also visited, as they are considered potential venues for organising a gala dinner during the conference. The visit ended with a presentation of Kraków’s most important tourist attractions, featuring the Royal Castle on Wawel Hill and the Underground Market Square.
