European Travel Commission is an institution associating National Tourist Organisations from 35 countries, which aims at the promotion of tourism both in individual countries and in all of Europe. On 3-5 October 2011, for the first time, Poland hosted ETC’s 60th Board of Directors Meeting and 81st General Meeting of Members. This extremely prestigious event took place in Marriot Hotel in Warsaw, and was attended by the directors of Europe’s National Tourist Organisations. Its special guest was Pedro Ortun, a European Commission representative.
Katarzyna Sobierajska, from the Ministry of Sport and Tourism, and Rafał Szmytke, President of the Polish Tourist Organisation, participated in the official opening.
Among the subjects raised were the situation of tourism in Europe, marketing activities and organisation strategy. A summary of actions in 2011 was also performed and the dates of future ETC meetings were discussed.
The post-conference programme included a visit to the Royal Baths Park and an official dinner in the Belvedere restaurant, as well as day-long sightseeing of Warsaw and a trip to Żelazowa Wola – the birthplace of Fryderyk Chopin.
