As early as on 3 September, part of the city is in for a substantial change. Children from the “Parkowa” Specialist Care and Education Centre (at 12 Parkowa St.) will receive a brand-new garden and a recreation-sports centre. How is this possible? Simple – over two days, representatives of the meetings industry (hotels, conference-planning companies, and conference facilities) from Kraków will devote their time to disinterestedly helping others. Leaving their office desks behind, they will turn into gardeners and builders. As they say: the smile on the children’s faces is the best reward!
This is the next “Back to the Garden” campaign started in 2011 and inspired by the IMEX Challenge Poland 2010 project. The first edition took place in 2011 in Warsaw, resulting in the creation of a garden for the Family Children’s House in Warsaw Wesoła. Now it’s time for Kraków.
The organisers – the Poland Convention Bureau, the Kraków Festival Office (the operator of the ICE Kraków Conference Centre), the Kraków Convention Bureau, and the PIM ART Landscaping Studio – have decided to support the “Parkowa” centre (at 12 Parkowa St.) in the Podgórze district. The facility provides care and education to children and adolescents (from 10 years of age) who, besides behaviour issues connected with puberty, experience family conflicts, behaviour disorders, and other, severe mental problems.
The “Parkowa” already hosts a middle school, but still lacks a gymnasium. Hence the idea to provide children, during the “Back to the Garden” campaign, with a sports infrastructure – to build an external gym as well as refresh and adapt the garden surrounding the facility. Under the project, we have gained the support of well-wishing companies and institutions, thanks to which we could purchase devices for outdoor strength training. They have also delivered sports equipment and over a hundred tree and shrub seedlings, gardening appliances, cleaning agents, and cinema tickets.
Now everything’s in our hands. Let’s meet on 3 September! Together we will prove that kindness and the willingness to work can do wonders!
