The last week of June saw the Dar Młodzieży tall ship calling at the French port of Bordeaux. This is one of this year’s most important promotional events not only in the French market, but also worldwide. Dar Młodzieży is on the Cruise of Independence celebrating the hundredth anniversary of the restoration of Poland’s sovereignty.

Polish Tourism Organisation (Polska Organizacja Turystyczna - POT) seized the opportunity to promote the national tourism sector by using the ship’s deck to hold a press conference connected with numerous highlights. The Bordeaux airport, where regular twice-a-week flights to Warsaw handled by the Hungarian Wizzair airlines were launched several months ago, partnered up with the event.

The conference of Polish Tourism Organisation proved of great interest for trade media and tour operators, with representatives of all entities present in the market of the region of Aquitaine in attendance. Tomasz Rudomino, Director of the Polish Tourism Organisation International Office in Paris. and Jean-Luc Poiroux, Director of Business Development of Bordeaux Airport, welcomed the guests. Captain Ireneusz Lewandowski, the ship’s commanding officer, gave a tour of Dar Młodzieży to French journalists.

Described by Tomasz Rudomino as a tourist highlight all in itself, Dar Młodzieży became a popular meeting place among the local residents, who could admire, i.a. an exceptional acrobatics on sails show by the Mira Art ensemble. Tomasz Młynarski, Ambassador of the Republic of Poland in Paris, Joanna Frybes, Consul General of the Republic of Poland, and the municipal authorities of Bordeaux also took part in meetings staged on the ship.
