The BIT fair in Milan is one of the biggest and oldest tourism trade fairs in Italy, intended for both industry representatives and consumers. In view of the global situation connected with the COVID-19 pandemic, the organisers decided to hold BIT 2021 exclusively in virtual mode between 9 and 14 May. Poland was represented by the Polish Tourism Organisation International Office in Rome. The time from 9 to 11 May was for industry meetings only, and then the event opened to consumers between 12 and 14 May.

The virtual Polish National Stand at BIT Digital Edition 2021 showcased Poland’s extensive tourism offering; the exhibitors included participants representing Poznań (PLOT) and Sopot (SOT), LOT Polish Airlines as well as eight Polish tour operators: Furnel Travel InternationalIvotrans TO, Jan-Pol TOMazurkas Travel PolandSOS TravelPoland TourErnesto Travel and Tour&Travel Poland.

The Italian market is one of the most rapidly developing international markets in terms of tourist arrivals in Poland. Over 600,000 Italian tourists visited Poland in 2019, which was the third-best result among incoming foreign tourists in Kraków and the Małopolska region (after Germany and the UK), and the fifth-best in Warsaw. For many years now, the most popular segment has been cultural tourism, mainly city breaks, package tours and religious tourism.

“Last year made everything become distant – people, but also destinations that had once seemed within easy reach. Let’s start getting back closer together!”, encourages Barbara Minczewa, acting director of the POT International Office in Rome. “As restrictions are gradually lifted, let’s return to dreaming about and planning our future travels. Let’s get back to tasting the world, to discovering other countries, their cuisines, aromas, cultures and friendly residents. Let’s awaken our senses in search of beauty; let’s do everything to get back our natural curiosity about the world. Poland is waiting for you with open arms. Alongside historic cities already familiar to Italian tourists (Kraków, Warsaw, Poznań, Gdańsk, Lublin), we have lots of options for nature lovers, far from the crowds. Modern, accessible both by air and over land, offering excellent infrastructure coupled with respect for the past and the traditions that make the country unique, Poland is also a paradise for those seeking extraordinary and diverse natural sites, from forests and national parks, through mountains and lakes, to white sand on the Baltic coast”, she points out Poland’s strong points as a tourist destination.
