Celebration of the 25th Anniversary of the Polish Tourism Organisation and World Tourism Day during the “Tourism of the Future 2025” Congress in Kołobrzeg

The four-day “Tourism of the Future” Congress is currently underway in Kołobrzeg, bringing together several hundred experts, industry representatives, local government officials and entrepreneurs. A special highlight of the third day of the event (Thursday, 25 September) was the ceremonial celebration of the 25th anniversary of the Polish Tourism Organisation (PTO), combined with World Tourism Day.

The jubilee was inaugurated by the Minister of Sport and Tourism, Jakub Rutnicki. The Minister emphasised the importance of promoting Poland, drawing attention to the country’s modern tourism and sports infrastructure, which, as he noted, “deserves to be showcased.” He stressed that every tourist visiting Poland can expect positive experiences, as the sector continues to develop in line with expectations, and Poland is increasingly recognised globally as a dynamic, modern and safe country. The Minister also recalled the role of major sporting events, such as Euro 2012, which served as a catalyst for promoting Poland. He announced that the country continues to strive for new ambitious goals, including plans to host the Olympic Games in 2040.

“Our infrastructure, safety and dynamic growth are things to be proud of – these are our strengths in promoting Poland worldwide,” said the Minister, also recalling how Euro 2012 and sport in general have played a key role in shaping the country’s image as a natural partner to tourism.

Another highlight of the gala was the presentation of honorary badges “For Services to Tourism”, awarded by the Minister responsible for tourism. We are delighted to share that one of the awardees was Rafał Szmytke, the President of the Polish Tourism Organisation.

In his anniversary address, President Rafał Szmytke emphasised that a quarter century of PTO’s activity represents a time of major projects and strong industry cooperation. He recalled that for 25 years, the organisation has consistently promoted Poland both domestically and abroad. He noted that PTO was instrumental in creating regional and local tourism organisations, launched the first online tourism information systems, established the Poland Convention Bureau and carried out promotional campaigns that became firmly ingrained in the consciousness of tourists. He added that the jubilee is a moment both for reflection and for setting new goals for the future.

“Twenty-five years is a milestone for reflection – but above all, a time to look ahead. Today, Poland ranks among the most attractive tourism destinations in the world,” he stated.

During the gala, a special film was presented to mark the anniversary, highlighting the key initiatives and projects implemented by the Polish Tourism Organisation over its 25 years of activity. Guests could see how PTO helped co-create a nationwide network of regional and local tourism organisations, developed modern tourism information systems, led global campaigns promoting Poland, and supported the country in attracting major business and sporting events. The film presented a unique journey through the history and achievements of the institution, showcasing the scale of its efforts and the commitment of many people and partners in building Poland’s international image.

To mark the 25th anniversary, the Polish Tourism Organisation also honoured its industry and institutional partners. Awards were presented to:
